If a wish is revealed, is it null and void?

Another wishing-protocol question has come up, this time about keeping your wish a secret. We’ve all heard that you’re not supposed to tell anyone what you wish for — when blowing out birthday candles or wishing on a shooting star — because then it won’t come true. But, is this up for debate?

According to this site, when wishing on a star, you’re not supposed to tell anyone. On the other hand, this site doesn’t say a word about secrecy, so we can assume that they don’t believe keeping your wish to yourself is a big deal.

If it’s true that you’re not supposed to tell, then I’ve already blown it because I told that my first wish is for ten more wishes.

However, I never felt any intuitive nudges that my Faery Godmother minded either that I was talking about this, or that I told my first wish. And, believe me, I know from experience that if there’s something I’m not supposed to be doing — especially after I make a point of asking for guidance — I will be prevented from making that mistake, either because my computer will continually crash — keeping me from blogging — or I will be distracted in some other equally laborious way.

Now that it’s time to start wishing, in earnest, I’m feeling some trepidation about sharing what those wishes might be.

The problem I’m facing is that I’m not sure if it’s early-years birthday-cake training, or if my intuitive guidance is telling me to tick a lock.

There’s another angle to this, which has nothing to do with the rules of wish-making. Part of me is afraid to reveal what my first of the ten wishes is, just in case it doesn’t come true.

Maybe I was okay with sharing Wish #1 because there was no way to prove whether it was granted or not.

There, I said it. What if, after all this talk about being granted a wish by a Faery Godmother, and all the folderol over whether I’m allowed to ask for more wishes … what if my first provable wish doesn’t come true? I’m gonna look rather foolish, you know?

I asked the Oracle about this, and here’s the response I received:

This could be interpreted a couple of different ways:

  1. Because I’ve already more or less decided what Wish #2 will be, this card could be telling me to give it more thought before speaking it aloud to my Faery Godmother. Perhaps it could be tweaked a little further.
  2. Or, it could be advising me to not tell what my wish is, to only “think” about it.

It could be both, or neither. However, both of the above feel true, so that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to keep the details of Wish #2 to myself, for now.

I’ll reveal my wish if … (that’s not very good Law of Attraction wording, is it?) … I’ll reveal it when it comes true.

You’ll just have to take my word for it that what I end up with is what I wished for. I’d rather keep everyone else in the dark and risk being annoying, than to risk not getting my wish because I felt unspoken peer pressure to spill my guts.

I’ll keep you posted. Meantime, here’s you a dog with a secret.

If offered one wish, can we wish for more?

 

I have an oracle app on my phone called Faces of Faerie, by Brian Froud, the designer of movies like The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. The oracle told me “Make a wish” and this got me thinking:

What if I really had been granted a wish?

At first I considered the old standard “I wish for all the money I’ll ever need”, but I decided to take this seriously, just for fun. I’ve seen the movie Bedazzled (a comedy about a man named Elliot Richards who sells his soul for seven wishes) and even wrote a comedy novel called Be Careful What You Witch For! about a woman who wishes for a more interesting life and gets it.    

Mayhem can happen if you mess around with something like this. “Fools rush in,” they say.

Then I thought, “What if I wish for more wishes?”

A flood of stories filled my head about characters who have been granted a wish and were told that’s not allowed.

But is that true?

Is there really a rule somewhere that says you can’t wish for more wishes? If so, says who? And, are they the boss of me?

I’ve been granted a wish and I want to spend it wisely. I don’t want to end up like Elliot Richards who asks to be the most sensitive man in the world and gets what he wishes for!

Given the opportunity, what would you wish for?

A metaphysical face lift

I was looking in the mirror, bemoaning my age. “Moan!” I said, “my age!” I poked up the skin under my ears with my forefingers, tightening my jawline, and instantly looked twenty years younger.

For the record, I’m not one of those people who chases youth, but I’m not necessarily thrilled to see what’s happening à mon visage. I don’t look bad, but the years are definitely showing. I am, after all, 54. I’m allowed.

Anyway, I was looking in the mirror and asked, “Pardon me, Healing Guides and Helper Spirits, can you help me to look a little younger? Sort of a metaphysical face lift? You know, move some molecules around, make me look a little better.”

I was hoping that someone was listening and taking notes so, for good measure, I added, “I’m not asking for startling miracles. It’s just that I didn’t appreciate it when I was young. I was too busy to notice that I even had smooth skin and tight jaw line. Could I have a little of it back, if I promise to appreciate it this time?”

Here was my answer: I got a sudden image of myself in twenty years, staring at myself in the mirror and asking the same question, because I didn’t bother to appreciate the youth I have now, at this age.

I’m still hoping for a spirit-assisted face lift, but I think I got the key to start the rejuvenation process.

Magical candles that WORK!

I recently started a new job at a metaphysical bookstore (talk about getting paid for something you’d do for free!!!). I’ve been attending classes, getting psychic readings, and trying products. It’s awesome!


In my reading with Sonya Lee (I talked about her in my most recent blog) she suggested that I try one of Sondra’s candles. Sondra is one of the other psychics (both read Tarot cards, along with other psychic gifts), and she makes and sells magical candles. Sonya said that she’s used them, and they are powerful!

So, why not? I get an employee discount (yay!) so I bought one to correspond with one of the issues we discussed in the reading.

Since then, the situation has not only improved, it’s done so in ways that I never imagined possible. My mind is blown! (I’d give details, but they involve other people, whose privacy I wish to protect.)

Cleanse follow-up: Thanksgiving Day!

I haven’t posted in the past few days. I’ve been working a lot, eating sensibly, and feeling well. The Challenge is today, Thanksgiving! Can I resist the temptation to pig out and undo the good I’ve done with the Cleanse?

I’m thankful that I even have this “problem”. I appreciate that I’ll have so many food choices today, so I’ll be sure to give thanks with every bite. I will eat mindfully and, therefore, will be able to eat in a way that respects my body, mind and spirit. I also send prayers to those who are not so fortunate, that they are soon uplifted.

Post-Cleanse Day Two: Journal entry

I felt well enough to go for a walk today, and the weather was perfect for it. Even the ducks thought it was a great day to be outside!

I continue to feel better and better every day. I am so glad that I did the cleanse. I feel like my reset button has been pushed. I’m energized and able to keep up again. It’s been a looooong time since I’ve felt this well.

IMG_20141124_071855975I woke up this morning with these horribly puffy eyes. I ate “healthy” fast food yesterday, when I was on the go. See what happens? I deliberately ate at a place that advertises its food as a healthy alternative, and still ended up looking like my screameyes were blowfish.Fortunately, that scary look didn’t last long, especially since I began the day right and maintained it all day.


Triumphs: I got twice as much work done today than I’ve been able to do in months. I feel fantastic, and my head is clear.

Makeovers: I had a banana smoothie for breakfast and tried a new quinoa recipe for lunch. The quinoa wasn’t so gIMG_20141124_082614985 copyreat, but it was filling and now I know not to make it again. But, hey … “nothing ventured, nothing gained”, right?

In case you’re interested, the smoothie is one cup of almond/coconut milk, one banana, 2 tbsp. ground flax seed, 1 packet stevia, 2 tbsp PB2, 1 heaping tbsp cocoa powder. YUMMY!

I went to Sprouts (their produce is nicely priced) and bought a bag of oranges so I can make the garlic-free “Morning Cocktails” again. They IMG_20141124_151918681were a nice way to start the day. I’m glad to have found this new recipe to add into the rotation.

AND … I went for a 2.5 mile power walk, which I haven’t been able to do for several weeks (I hurt my ankle and also felt too crappy). If I hadn’t done that, I wouldn’t have seen Officer Blitz (0f the Tempe PD), trying to hide behind a tree!

Intentions: I intend that I ride this wave of feeling good as long as I can.

Current Conditions: Yay!

Daily Thanksgiving: I’m thankful to feel better. Truly, deeply thankful. As they say on the old Geritol commercial, “When you have your health, you have just about everything.”

Post-Cleanse Day Two: Journal entry

IMG_20141123_111130680~2 Well, I’ve certainly learned something! Remember the five pounds I lost? Remember the burger and ale I had last night for dinner because I didn’t plan ahead for post-cleanse-friendly foods? I gained two pounds back!

Let me start off by saying, again, that this cleanse wasn’t about losing weight. It was about getting healthier. I want to make it clear that I don’t obsess about my weight. I’m perfectly content to be a size 10 or 12.

Next, let me point out the obvious: two pounds gained overnight is obviously not fat. What I ate last night somehow caused my body to retain water, or something a little stickier than that. I’m not sure exactly. I just know that this is an interesting lesson.

So …


Triumphs: I went back to a healthier way of eating today. And, even with last night’s hiccup, I still feel really good. I had a lot more energy today than I’ve had in months. I was able to help someone move, and didn’t get tired or dizzy from the exertion. And, my anxiety levels are back down.

Makeovers: I meditated this morning and watched the sun rise. I brought some healthy snacks, including carrots and hummus, to eat while we worked today, and then ate well the rest of the day.

cleanse pullquoteChallenges:  I didn’t have time to do any grocery shopping today, and I have to work tomorrow, so the challenge to eat nourishing, healthy meals continues. Part of the problem is that I’m not sure what to eat. I certainly don’t want to go back to my old habits, but being on the go like this makes it hard to eat healthy, filling meals, without spending a fortune.

Intentions: I intend that I surf the Detoxinista site for some ideas before I go to bed tonight.

Current Conditions: Jazzed, yet cautious.

Daily Thanksgiving: I’m thankful for improved health. I’m also thankful that my challenges are first world problems. I did the cleanse because I was having health issues from not taking care of myself. So I’m not whining about having too many food choices when there are people who are literally starving. I’m deeply thankful that I have food choices to make. I’m grateful that I’m learning more, every day, about how to fuel my body in a way that makes it run like a well-oiled machine.

Post-cleanse Day One: Journal entry

Today I worked an eight hour shift, and had almost no time to prepare the kinds of meals I should be eating when coming off a cleanse, so I had to wing it.

For breakfast, I had some leftover quinoa and a cup of tea, and dashed out the door. For lunch, I went to Sprouts and ordered a veggie wrap.

But dinner time was the real problem, because I was back at home and didn’t have anything cleanse-friendly left in the larder. I had eaten all of the healthier stuff and didn’t have time to shop.

So, I reluctantly had a hamburger. And, honestly, it didn’t even taste as good as I expected. (It wasn’t the one pictured above–I swiped that from Pinterest. Click the pic to see where it’s from.) And, I figured since I was blowing it, I might as well have a Boddington’s with it.


Triumphs: I lost five pounds over the course of the cleanse. I was able to wear one of my favorite shirts today, one that was a little too tight last week. I feel great and my energy levels are high.

Makeovers: Before going to work, I took a few minutes to meditate and center myself. Sometimes, taking those extra moments to do that can be the best thing I can do for myself.cleanse pullquote

Challenges: I don’t want to fall back into my old eating habits. Eating a burger for dinner wasn’t what I wanted to do, but I simply didn’t have the time to go shopping again for post-cleanse foods.

Intentions: I intend that, today, I make a point of stocking the kitchen with more healthy foods.

Current Conditions: I’m almost reluctant to go off the cleanse. It was easier to have a set of strict guidelines of what I could eat.

Cleanse Day Five: Journal entry

The final Morning Cocktail! Huzzah! Turns out, they’re not so bad. I will probably continue to make these a few times a week.


Triumphs: I finished the cleanse, without cheating once and it wasn’t very hard at all. After the first day or two, I wasn’t even very hungry. It carlton-dance-gifshows me that what I thought were hunger pangs were actually false hunger. I didn’t need food, I needed to feed a craving.

I love five pounds and I feel so much better!

Makeovers: Today, at my second day at work, I made a point of wearing the kinds of clothes that made me feel really good about myself.

Challenges: On Saturday, I work a full shift and haven’t  had time to make any arrangements for what I’m going to eat. When coming off a cleanse, it’s wise to not jump back into old habits, for two reasons: you can feel ill if you do, and why undo the good work that’s been done?cleanse pullquote

Intentions: I intend that eat some leftover quinoa for breakfast, so I’ll be full until lunch. Then I intend that I go to Sprouts (a local health food grocery store) for lunch to find something suitable.

Current Conditions: Feeling triumphant!

Daily Thanksgiving: I’m thankful that I’ve proven to myself that I can still do this (I was feeling very discouraged and depressed before I started). I’m grateful for my doctor’s recognition that I needed to do a cleanse. She was right.

Cleanse Day Four: Journal entry

No food pics today! I ate pretty much the same things I’ve been eating, and my day was too busy to experiment with anything new.


Triumphs: I started my new job today and didn’t reek of garlic. The odorless garlic tablets are as advertised. Plus, I felt better, not having ingested so much raw garlic. I didn’t realize it before, but it was the cause of my feeling mildly ill.

I’m down another pound, for a total of four.

Makeovers: I hate to admit it, but I didn’t have time for any Makeovers today. Perhaps my Makeover will be to cut myself some slack for not doing any, when it was such an unusually busy day.

Challenges: We’ve had a major Challenge crop up in my household, which I can’t really talk about here. Sometimes my reaction to such things is to say “Screw it” and eat whatever I want. It is hard to not do that, being so close to the end of this cleanse. I could easily say, “I only have one more day, I can quit early.”

Intentions: I intend that I see this through until the end. I only have one more day.

Current Conditions: Tired, ready for bed.

Daily Thanksgiving: I’m thankful that my new job has begun and that it seems like it will work out well. I’m grateful for the lightness that I’m beginning to feel as a result of this cleanse. I’m thankful that I can definitely see results in the way my body looks, and my clothes fit.
